Inside your bracelet hides a chip no bigger than a sesame seed.
You can't see it, you can't feel it – but it's there, resting quietly inside the bead that sits closest to your wrist.
Where is it?
Every Malagram bracelet contains an NFC chip.
We embed it inside a specific bead or pendant – completely invisible from the outside. No bumps, no buttons, no indicator lights, nothing that spoils the look. It sits silently inside the bead – you can't see it, but it's always there.
Usually, the bead that holds the chip looks slightly different from the others, so you can identify it. The product details will tell you which one it is. If you're not sure, just hold your phone close to each bead – the right one will respond.
What you receive
Each Malagram bracelet comes with the chip already pre‑programmed with its intended content. You don't need to do anything else. Just put it on, tap it, and it works.
You can scan the QR code on the package to check what's stored on your bracelet, or simply follow these steps:
1. Bring your phone close.
Hold your phone (with NFC enabled) near the bead that contains the chip.
2. It pops up automatically.
The screen will display the stored content – a piece of text, a link to open, or a contact card to save. The whole thing takes just 1–2 seconds. No extra steps, no password, no waiting.
That's it. Nothing else.
Can I change it later?
Yes. Our chips support rewrites – at least 100,000 times. If you store a business card today and want to switch to your personal page tomorrow, you can do it anytime. No limits, no restrictions.
There's one exception: if you're absolutely sure you won't need to change it again, you can lock the chip to "read‑only" mode using an app. Once locked, nobody – including yourself – can modify the content. So think twice before you lock.
How close is "close"?
NFC works only within 2–4 centimetres.
That means your phone has to be right next to the bead to read it. Some might see this as a limitation – we see it as a feature. No one can read your bracelet without you knowing.
On the subway, someone would have to touch your wrist – you'd notice. At dinner, someone would have to lean in – you'd notice. The short range gives you a physical "no" button: if you don't let them near, they can't read it.
Can other people read it too?
Yes. NFC is an open standard – any NFC‑enabled phone can read it.
Some ask: "Doesn't that mean anyone can see what I've stored?"
Yes, it does. So here's our advice: don't store passwords, ID numbers, bank details, or your home address in the chip.
Store what you'd be happy to share anyway – contact info, social profiles, a personal message, your brand. These are things you'd put on a business card or tell someone in conversation. NFC just makes it a little more convenient.
Public information belongs in a public bracelet.
What if my phone can't read it?
Don't panic. Most of the time, it's not a broken chip.
Step 1: Make sure NFC is turned on in your phone settings. Many people forget they've turned it off.
Step 2: Adjust the phone's position. The NFC antenna is usually near the top centre of the back (around the camera area), but it varies by model. Slowly slide your phone over the bead until you find the sweet spot.
Step 3: Restart your phone. Sometimes the NFC module gets stuck – a reboot fixes it.
Step 4: If none of the above works, try a different reading app (like NFC Tools, Google Pay, etc.).

Will it stop working over time?
NFC chips have no battery and consume no power – they don't "run out."
Data retention is theoretically decades, and rewrite cycles are rated at over 100,000 times. It works while you wear it, and it waits for you when you don't.
But there's one condition: the chip must not be physically damaged.
If the bead containing the chip cracks, is deliberately struck, or submerged in water (the chip itself is not waterproof), its function may be affected. Normal wear, daily taps, and minor bumps won't cause problems. Deliberate smashing, hammering, or soaking – that's a different story.
Why do we put NFC in a bracelet?
Not to be "smart." Not to follow a trend.
The real reason is: something you wear every day should be able to carry a little weight.
You might love this bracelet because it looks good, or because it means something to you. Now, it can also hold something – a name, a message, a link, something you want people to know.
Some ask: "Can't I just store all that on my phone?"
You can – but your phone holds thousands of photos, hundreds of contacts, dozens of group chats, endless notifications. This bracelet holds just one thing. Whatever you put in it, that's all there is. Sometimes, that "less" is more powerful than "more."
A final word
The chip inside that bead is no bigger than a sesame seed. It doesn't glow, beep, notify you, or track where you are.
It does only one thing: when you want it to, it passes what you've stored to someone who comes close.
